Manny PacquiaoAnother interesting event here in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines because Rep. Manny Pacquiao (Sarangani) will attend the 76th founding anniversary of Silliman University Law Alumni Association on Aug. 26, at the Moot Court, Villareal Hall, Silliman University.

This was confirmed by SULAW member Lester Nuique.

Nuique said Pacquiao’s words would inspire student lawyers or even professionals on how he rose from the ranks.

From an amateur, Pacquiao has become the number one boxer in the world holding eight championship belts, and then became a congressman of the Republic of the Philippines.

Dumaguete City Awarded as one of the “Top Emerging Business Destinations” in the Philippines for 2010

Department of Tourism LogoPeople who are fond of going to the more popular destinations of the Philippines like Boracay, Puerto Galera, Cebu, Davao among others are encouraged to travel to the equally beautiful but not much visited places in the country.

The Department of Tourism (DoT) and the Philippines Tour Operations Association (PHILTOA) recently announced their list of and awarded several cities across the country the distinction of being the “top emerging business destinations” of the year. To be considered under the list, the destination must meet all the criteria of having good accessibility, communication network, availability of meeting facilities and standard accommodation.

Buglasan Festival 2010 Date Has Been Set Already

buglasan-festival-paradeBuglasan Festival 2010 has been set already to start on October 15,2010 with daily activities and programs until October 24, 2010.

As early as last month of July, preparations are underway for this year’s colorful Buglasan Festival with more than 50 events calendared for a two-week long celebration in October.

Negros Oriental Tourism Council (NOTC) Chair Nick Elman briefed Provincial Governor Agustin Perdices and tourism coordinators from different local government units (LGUs) in separate occasions the details of the activities and competition in the upcoming event.

Dumaguete Buglasan Festival 2010, Negros Oriental’s annual Provincial Fiesta showcasing and celebrating the tourism interests of the 25 local government units, and the culture and arts achievements of the Oriental Negrense which is usually held in Dumaguete City, preparations are now on going.

Myla Mae Abellana, Senior Tourism Operations Officer of Negros Oriental, said Buglasan Festival 2010 will be under the management of the Negros Oriental Tourism Council, chaired by Dr. Nichol Elman.

Dumaguete City 2010 Dal-uy Festival

Dumaguete City 2010 Dal-uy Festival of HopeFireworks burst over some 4,000 lanterns floating on the waterfront of Dumaguete’s Rizal Boulevard marking the Foundation University’s 61st anniversary during the Dal-uy Festival of Hope, an adaptation of the Asian tradition of wishing for peaceful coexistence. The event attracted thousands of students who decorate the floats and inscribe them with their hopes for the coming school year.

Dumaguete City is in the Top Ten Next Wave Cities

Next Wave Cities 2010Dumaguete City is now in the top 10 new wave cities for outsourcing locations in the Philippines. The recognition was given by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), Business Process Association of the Philippines and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for achieving one of the country’s top ten outsourcing locations in 2010 with an overall score of 74 percenton the next wave cities scorecard.

Provincial Director Javier Fortunato of the Department of Trade and Industry said Dumaguete City got higher scores on the labor pool of human resources and environment categories because of the presence of universities and ICT council here.

The ranking was based on the Next Wave Cities (NWC) scorecard, an evaluation system established by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P), the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
