Cebu to Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental Travel Guide

cebu-to-dumagueteThere are many ways to travel from Cebu to Dumaguete. You can travel from Cebu to Dumaguete by Air which takes about three hours if your flight is via Manila but if it is a direct flight from Cebu to Dumaguete it would only take about 15 to 25 minutes.  The direct flights are in the morning the rest would be via Manila.  Although a little expensive but it is more convenient. You can also take a trip by Sea which takes about seven hours. The boat usually leaves Cebu at night. In this way, you can sleep during the entire trip and arrive in Dumaguete the following morning.

There are three types of accommodation when traveling by boat from Cebu to Dumaguete. The first type is Economy. This is an open air accommodation. The second type is the Tourist. A fully air-conditioned room and passengers are provided with a bed sheet and a blanket. I usually opt for this type of accommodation.Although there are times when the aircon is not in good condition, the room can be a little warm. The third type is the business class. In this room you have more privacy because the bed is surrounded by curtains. But as of this writing I am not sure if the business class is still available. Curtains help block the light in the room thus you can sleep better with curtains on.Accommodations vary depending on the boat you choose.

Another way to travel from Cebu to Dumaguete is by Land which is faster than traveling by Sea. For travelers who are in a tight budget, this is the best route for you. Taking the Bus will take about four hours depending on the port while V-hire will take about three hours to three hours and thirty minutes.  For me, I like traveling by bus because it is more spacious  and the aircondition is good. But the journey is a little bit slower compared to traveling by V-Hire vans because a bus can accomodate lots of passengers so there will be many stops along the way because not all passengers are going to Dumaguete but I think there would be a slight difference of 30 minutes compared to traveling using the V-Hire Vans. The VHire vans on the other hand are small so you will be traveling for four hours in a not so spacious vehicle but still bearable. And the last way to journey by land which I have done 3 times already which I also prefer if my vehicle is in top condition which is always not. Traveling by land using your own vehicle can be satisfying because you can enjoy the towns along the way because you have the choice to stop, take some pictures, look around and even buy some delicasies. But word of caution traveling using your own vehicle can also be a little dangerous when your not familiar with the road so be careful when driving. Another advantage traveling by land using your own vehicle would be when you arrive in Dumaguete you can really explore the place and maybe make side trips to the neighboring towns and cities but again there are lots of ways to explore Dumaguete like you can rent a motorcycle which is very affordable or rent a car.

The terminals of both the Bus and V-Hire are just near each other. There are two key ports you need to know when traveling by land. First is Dumaguete via Liloan (North) and Dumaguete via Bato. Although they are just few meters away from each other but there is a difference of thirty to forty five minutes, Satander port though they are near but they have big difference in the way you depart from Cebu. If your going to depart using Bato, Santander port you will be sailing using a barge which is a little bit slow and you will arrive in San Jose a second town to the north from Dumaguete. But if your going to depart from Liloan, Santander you will be departing using a big pump boat or a small boat but still safe and you will arrive in Sibulan which is the first town to the north of Dumaguete. When using the barge to cross the sea between Cebu island and Negros island it will take an hour while using the big pump boats and small boats it would only take around 35 minutes to cross from Cebu island to Negros island.
