In recent years, Sagay City has been gaining a name for itself as an emerging tourist destination. With hardwork and commitment of our leaders and people to fulfill our dreams and aspirations,
we have transformed our city into an interesting place to visit, relax and enjoy. Sagay City

According to source, Sagay City received two awards for its tourism efforts during the 12th National Convention of the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) in Roxas City recently.

Adlaw sa Suba 2011 city level was chosen the First Placer for ATOP-DOT Best Tourism Practices Award – Sports and Wellness Category. On the other hand, Sinigayan festival 2011 awarded the Second Place for ATOP-DOT Best Tourism Practices Award – Festival Category in the same city level.

The awards were given during the Tourism Night and Awarding Ceremonies at the 12th Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) National Convention with the theme “ATOP:Agent of Culture of Tourism.”

Sagay City Mayor Leo Rafael M. Cueva and city councilor and chairperson of the Committee on Tourism Matthew Victor Gamboa together with the personnel of the City Information and Tourism Office and Negros Occidental Provincial Tourism officer Christine Mansinares received the awards.

Cueva thanked those who were part of the staging of this year’s Sinigayan Festival for their collective commitment of staging a green festival and promoting the advocacy to protect Sagay’s marine environment.

Meanwhile, Gamboa said Adlaw sa Suba aims to raise awareness in preserving the priceless Himoga-an River.

“Let this award be an encouragement to all of us to continue with our advocacy. Even if we have all the beautiful destinations but if we don’t preserve them, we won’t have any destinations to promote and inherit to our children in the future,” Gamboa said.

Also conferred awards during the ATOP National Convention were Silay City’s Christmas Village – Arts and Culture Category (City Category) and Cadiz City’s Dinagsa – Festival Event (City Category).

The Association of Tourism Officers of Negros Occidental (ATONO) was also recognized for its contribution to ATOP.

To qualify for the awards, an event by the local government unit must submit a bid book and video containing the details of the event.

The ATOP Best Tourism Practices Awards recognizes the exceptional practices, projects, and innovations in our community and the tourism industry.
