The pioneer in the creation of an anti-smoking ordinance in Negros Oriental, is set to hold a festival to mark the second year of its implementation of the smoke-free law — DUMAGUETE CITY, July 12 (PIA)
The “Waybuga Festival” will be held on July 15, 2011 with the theme “Amlan: Soaring High, Model of A Smoke-Free Community”.
The festival “Way buga” which is a Cebuano term translated in English as smoke-free.

Pag-IBIG calls employers to register, update information using the online registration system

Pag-IBIG calls on all employers to register and update their information using the online employer registration system of the Fund that can be accessed at www.pagibigfund.gov.ph.
Effective July 1, all transactions with PAG-IBIG Fund will be based on the Members Identification (MID) or Registration Tracking Number (RTN).
Employers must also ensure that their employees are registered with the Fund. Those who do not have MID or RTN must register online.
Members without MID or RTN due to non-registration may experience difficulty or delay in the posting of their contributions.
Upon the implementation of this new policy, the employers must indicate the MID or RTN of each of their employees in the Membership Contribution Remittance Form (MCRF) and on the statement of deduction of loan amortization remittances.

People, businesses and communities from across the globe are urged to turn off their lights for one hour to send a message on taking action against global warming in observance of the Earth Hour 2011 on Saturday, March 26, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (local time).
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 Regional Executive Director Maximo Dichoso encourages the public to switch off not only their lights but also other non-essential electrical appliances to relieve Planet Earth and its inhabitants of the destructive build-up of carbon stress.

DOST (PINRI) advices the public not to believe in hoax messages

Department of Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo said the public should not believe in rumors that the alleged nuclear meltdown at “Fukuyama”, or some other place in Japan, threatens to affect other places.
• The advice circulating that people should stay indoors and to wear raincoats if they go outdoors has no basis and did not come from DOST or the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center.
• DOST CLARIFIES THAT THERE IS NO IMMEDIATE DANGER OF NUCLEAR RADIATION IN THE PHILIPPINES.
• DOST advises the public not to believe these rumors currently spreading through text messages, emails, the Internet, and other means of communication.
• DOST also advises the public not to entertain these rumors and to stop forwarding such messages so as not to sow panic among our people.
• DOST maintains a 24/7 link-up with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the highest authority on nuclear matters, for advice on the current situation of the Fukushima Daiichi plant. Available data do not indicate any immediate threats to the Philippines.
• DOST is committed to bringing accurate, reliable, and timely information regarding the Fukushima event and its possible effects to the Philippines.

LGU Valencia supports anti-smoking ordinance

The local government of Valencia stand for commitment to support the implementation of the non-smoking ordinance especially on public places.
Valencia Mayor Enrique Gonzalez, who is a non-smoker, said he will join the national advocacy campaign against tuberculosis and lung disease spearheaded by the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Alliance Philippines (FCAP) and the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union).
